I am calling this post Nursery I as I am sure that there will be a few posts about this as my wife's mood changes along the way.
_______
The talks of what to do for the nursery have begun. When we moved into our new place (a rental unit) we painted the entire place (with the landlord being nice enough to pay for the paint). For the middle room, which was slated to be the office knowing that it would quickly change to the baby room should that situation be presented, we just used whatever paint was left over. It was a light green and a light yellow, colours that are favourable for our unborn child's room.
I suppose I could not have been more wrong.
It is just not what the wife wants. So in the coming months there will be much deliberation on what the look will actually be. All I know is that I will have some painting to do.
In the meantime we are busy clearing out the space. It became our dumping ground when we moved in as the other two rooms were our guest room and bedroom.
The guestroom has now become the guestroom/office/library/wine cellar. It sounds like a lot but it actually works out quite well. Whereas our room has now been overrun by Mat clothing with our friends and family have graciously donated to us... more on that in another post.
The nursery is nearly clean but between the two of us with school and three jobs, there is very little time left to get things done and when we do have time, we often choose to spend time enjoying each others company instead. I think it's working out well.
A place for a first time father-to-be to share his thoughts, feelings, and to say whatever he wants.

Shopping, one of the first things I think of.
I am not the biggest fan of shopping. Although it is not very apparent to those around me. To my wife, she may think that I love it because it takes me FOREVER to buy anything. But the truth is, I love the chase. I love trying to find the best thing for me in the situation. Whether it availability, price, colour or size, anything can affect the decision and it's usually more than one of these at a time. As an example, when looking for something as simple as socks, I will look online for options then go to three different stores before deciding which to purchase.
This process/approach does not bode well for the amount of purchases that will need to be made for my child. We're not talking about a pair of socks here. Most of these purchases will affect my child's safety.
As soon as the news comes across, one of the first things I do is hit the web to take a look at anything from car seats, to cribs, to booster seats trying to find the safest, or most compact or most highly rated products out there. Price is playing a very small factor in this decision as I want to ensure this little guy or gal is the safest that can be! Although, if the product goes on sale....
A friend of ours knows how much of a comparative shopper I am (mostly because she hears my wife complaining about it all the time), so she sent me a link to a comparative shopping site for baby items. I loved it!
I'll update as we make decisions on items and share the thinking that went into it.

First view of the baby!
Not too long ago we got the first glimpse at the little monster growing inside my wife! It was amazing
Here is what we saw.
Not much there eh? The best part was that we saw a little heart beat. We couldn't hear it yet but saw the chart. It was wonderful.
It's so weird that it's there and growing.

The news is in!
As I was awoken at around 3:45am in early May 2011, with a little plastic stick being shown to me, I was confused and unsure what I was being shown. It was dark, my glasses were on the side table, I probably had pillow creases on my cheek from the pillow my head had gently been resting on only seconds earlier and with the various different test, with lines, colours words and happy faces, I really had no clue what to think. But with the ear-to-ear grin that came across my wife's face, I had a good idea.
The night before the wife decided to take a test. It came back positive but was very faint and we decided that it was inconclusive. She then quickly went to the store to get another test for conformation. She came back with a two-pack. Just to make sure.
I was told that she would wait until the morning for the "morning pee". I was then given the lesson on what this meant. Boy, I have a learned a lot lately. Well, she couldn't sleep or was woken up by the urge to pee at around 3:30 and thought what better time to do this then now. When the results came in, she couldn't contain her excitement and and needed to show me RIGHT AWAY!
I was happy to share in the excitement of the moment but, although it was more clear then the last test, it still wasn't exactly definitive. NOT TO WORRY! As mentioned, the previous evening she bought a two-pack so we had another shot at total confirmation.
She did the final test at some point along the day without me knowing, then decided to meet me after my work, before her class. She presented me with a card congratulating me on becoming a father and again with the same big grin on her face she showed me a picture of the latest test which she took a picture of on her cell phone.
This was was VERY definitive. Two big solid red lines.
As I ate that meal, I thought about how much my life was about to change... for the better.

To start it all off, a little history about this blog.
I started this blog about three years ago for a school project that was suppose to teach us to be more in tuned with the electronic world and talk about the advancements and future of the advertising world. In case you can't tell, I went to school for advertising.
Well as soon as that class was done, I wasn't that interested in continuing writing about that topic but thought that I may at some point come up with an idea or interest that I would like to share with whoever is interested.
A number of ideas ran through my head. Maybe a general comment tool for me to discuss my love for sports and my eternal frustration with my beloved Leafs. Then I thought it might be funny to post about the random things that my friends hate, trying to remember them as they come flying out of their mouths. As an example, one of my friends said "I hate when when bugs fly in your nose, then when you blow your nose, you have bugs in your boogers." Yeah. Classy.
When I got married, I thought to myself that it may be interesting if I made a sort of log of how thing were progressing and what tasks I was allowed to be involved with, which to my luck was mostly all of them because I don't have a crazy, controlling wife. But that thought passed me by rather quickly as I always thought of better things to do.
After all of those ideas, I was still left with a nearly empty blog and nothing really that interesting to say.
But alas, a few months ago, my lovely wife and I were blessed with the news that our budding family was about to add a new member in the form of a new baby.
And that my friends, is how this new blog has started.
Out with the old, I deleted all the old post I made in school over three years ago as they were irrelevant and uninteresting, and in with the new, in the form of new post relevant to my current situation, what I'm feeling, what progress is being made and maybe things that surprise me along the way. Who knows where this will go. Worst case scenario, I forget about it all together and never post again.
I also have to make it clear that I am not writing this for anyone in particular. I would say it's mostly a vehicle for me to express the things that I am feeling. I don't care if I am the only one ever to read it. It will allow me to come back and re-live the past from time to time and maybe laugh at myself.
As becoming a father and family man is all new to me, I thought the title of the page was still be-fitting to the situation since I don't have the slightest inclination what I am getting into.
Enjoy!
